Women in Recovery

The Place Outside CIC runs a Woodland Natural Wellbeing Project for women in recovery from trauma based addiction. The women who attend are coming to the end of treatment and are about to step back into the community.

They attend the project once a week at the end of a very busy week. Participants are invited to spend some focused time in nature through nature based practice. Supporting participants to nurture a relationship with the natural environment, allows self care and an ongoing wellbeing practice that can support the recovery journey. This is followed by a simple nature based craft activity.

Note that nothing is enforced as sometimes sitting quietly by the fire having a cuppa is just as important.

Feedback from previous participants

“I just love connection to nature, the earth. Nothing else matters. I’m free. I don’t think about addiction and recovery. I just love being here.”

“I feel a sense of freedom from addiction peace of mind and very present”

“It affects my wellbeing as being in surroundings of nature and others I feel better in myself”

“I will take away spending time on my own is OK and learn to sit with my emotions and feelings. It has made me aware how good it is for my mind and body and soul it’s so calming.I would recommend this to everyone from all walks of life. Family friends”

Experiencing positive emotions through nature based practice,is associated with lower levels of depression and anxiety.
